365 Q&A #75: A Drink From His Cup

Think of a person and describe his or her personality through writing about a cup they often drink from (real or imagined).

He sips cautiously as to not disturb the world around him. He savors the moment letting the taste linger on his lips. He enjoys every ounce of the aroma, carefully and deeply breathing in the steam coming from his cup. He grasps the cup gently but has a firm enough grasp where it will not drop. There's a small chip on the back left of the cup which he is careful to avoid when sipping as to not cut his lip. A faded image of a child's drawing rests on the front of the cup. His fingers trace the image. A smile grows across his face. "You still have that old thing, Dad?", a young woman says. "You made it. I would never get rid of it. The young woman places a kiss on the old man's cheek and leaves. The light in his eyes dims as he watches the door close behind her.

I wish I could capture that light and give it back to him whenever he is feeling down. I would give anything to see him happy. I am no longer that light for him and that's okay. I just want him to get the love he deserves. The love his is worthy of.
