365 Q&A #72: A little rewrite

Today's writing prompt asked to find a previous entry that I like and rewrite it. As Stephen King once said "kill your darlings". Even it if kills you to do so. Rewrites are always the hardest. You've gone and put in so much work and now you have to go back in with a fine tooth comb and pluck out what isn't working. No matter how much you love a scene or character or line of dialogue. If it doesn't fit you must kill it.

He heads into the darkness again. Always expecting you to follow suit. But you can't this time. You can't go down that path because you know he isn't coming back this time. He's too far gone; completely given up on life. And now he wants to end it here with you. You made a pact but that was before you found someone who showed you that the world isn't full of darkness. That's it full of life and colors and wonder. They showed you that living life in fear is no way to live. So you let him go into the darkness alone knowing he won't be coming back. Knowing that you've killed that version of yourself for good.
