365 Q&A #64: I Object!

October 20th's writing prompt went as follows:

In either a movie or real-life wedding ceremony, you've likely heard this line "should anyone here present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace." Sometimes it's almost disappointing when nothing happens at the would-be climax. Rather than arresting a real-life wedding, do it here instead.

"I object." The whole church turns around to see a little boy dressed in a tuxedo with a cute little bow tie. The crowd laughs and coos at the little boy. As they turn back around to continue the ceremony, the church doors swing open. A man comes in out of breath. "There you are Jack." He picks the little boy up. "Hi Daddy." The man looks at the bride "Sarah." "You're late", the bride exclaims. "Mommy!", the little boy says looking at the bride. The crowd of wedding guests all gasp. The little boy wiggles from his Dad's arms and runs up the aisle.

He reaches the alter, turns toward the bride and makes a bee-line for the maid of honor. "Mommy!" He holds on to her leg and the ceremony resumes.
