365 Q&A #30: Going Greek

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

Boy do I love me some Greek mythology. The first time I was introduced to it I was in the 9th grade and did a project on Prometheus. Therefore when given the opportunity to write about an ancient myth in modern times via a writing prompt, I just had to return to one of my favorite myths.

For those that don't know his story, Prometheus was a titan who stole fire from the gods and granted it to humans. This angered Zeus who then chained him to a rock where an eagle would eat his liver everyday. As he is immortal his liver would regenerate and the process would continue over and over again.

Prometheus has invented the cure to all illnesses and has given it to the humans. The gods and the elite people (aka the 1%) are furious with him as he has made sure that the poorest have access to the cure. He has essentially granted humanity immortality, although they can still die in other ways they cannot die from disease-born illness. This action has created an issue with population control. Prometheus has opened up a huge can of worms while trying to do good. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.
