365 Q&A #24: Titanic

Today is the day the Titanic slipped below water, at 2:20 in the morning, about two and a half hours after striking an iceberg. I've been obsessed with the Titanic ever since watching Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet told the dramatized version of the tragic event. Today's writing prompt asked the following:

Imagine a final interaction between two people somewhere on the ship or in the water.

A young woman holds on to her tearful younger brother. He looks up at her, tears welling up in his bright blue eyes. She kisses his forehead and holds him tighter. The ship buckles and the cold ocean water hits their bodies like a thousand needles ripping through their flesh. The water takes over their bodies and they are separated. The young boy comes up for air and calls out to his sister. His screams alert a nearby life boat. He is picked up by them. His sister resurfaces, what seems like miles away from her brother. She is too cold to speak. She wades in the water and watches her brother's life boat paddle away.

I can't even begin to fathom the terror the passengers of the Titanic must have felt in their final moments or even the sorrow and guilt it's survivors must have experienced. Can you?
